A Player Character (Playable Character, PC, or simply Character) is a character within the Chromed-Out universe that is directly controlled by a user. Player characters come in many shapes and sizes, varying in origins, occupation, age, wealth, etc.

Classes of Characters

The life-blood of the city. They are mercenaries, corporate denizens, headline-chasers, adrenaline-junkies, hackers, thieves, and celebrities. The only thing that they all have in common is that they take jobs and live very short lives.

The pay-checks of the city. They are police captains, corporate-shogun, mob-bosses, and people with enough cash to hire. They are the hand that feeds and it is not wise to bite them.

Types of Playable Characters

  • Humans
    • Still in circulation after all these decades are the 11,000,000,000 people who still call themselves humans, even as such a word loses its meaning day by day. Cyborgs are included in this definition, one only becomes a transhuman after the replacement of the brain.
  • Transhumans
    • A Transhuman is a human that has undergone "trans-humanization", a process wherein the natural brain has been replaced by a Cyberbrain, either through deep brain tissue scans (usually reserved for the ultra-rich), or Profile Replication by way of a Neural Stack. Transhumans are otherwise indistinguishable from regular humans.
  • Synthetic humans
    • Entirely manufactured and non-natural beings that are- as far as modern science can tell, biologically indistinguishable from humans.
  • Androids
    • Entirely non-human and inorganic. Uses a manufactured brain or CPU running SoulOS. Androids may have a wide variety of origins, including A.I. in a physical body, Transhumans inhabiting a totally mechanical chassis, and many more.
  • Artificial Intelligence
    • AIs make your perfect cup of coffee, automate the perfect responses on Crisis-Hotlines, or glide through the vastness of the quarantined sections of the SprawlNet. Interacting with unsupervised or rogue AIs sounds well and good, until you get a knock on the door from either DarkWatch or an insane fanatic.
  • Exotics
    • Human beings that are organic, but particularly exotic in form or genetics. (I.e Cat people, Orcs, Humans with lizard tails, etc.) Exotics are usually created by manufacturing (most often to the specifications of an "owner" or "master"), like Synthetics, or by excessive surgery and gene therapy, which may or may not be desired by the exotic themselves.
