Summary

Runners come from every walk of life. Some want to just survive, while others want to become legends. However, To become a legend you have to have a glorious death. So, you best excel at least at doing that. -Kayésilu Stone, 'Runner's Guide to Dying in Shibuya'

Runners are the guns-for-hire in C02. There is no strict definition of what exactly defines a Runner, however, their role is very apparent. Runners take jobs from Fixers in exchange for equipment, fame, or fortune. In that process, they slowly develop street-cred within the community because of their exploits. Word of mouth is incredibly important to Runners due to how street-cred allows them to have easier access to jobs and better cohesion with other Runners. Clothing, presentation, confidence, and charisma are ninety-percent of the job so it is highly recommended that players dedicate some time to make their Runners shine compared to others.

Types of Runners

  • Mercs | Solos

Mercs are what you think when you hear 'gun-for-hire'. Solos pride themselves on efficiency and brutality within their work. Mercenaries usually lack flair and instead gain most of their street-cred from completing a job without any problems. However, they are some of the strongest and most powerful Runners you can face in battle.

  • Nomads

Nomads are the no-nonsense cowboys and dirt-bikers from the former United States of America & Australia. They usually specialize in vehicles and mechanical-knowledge rather than software, but that isn't always true. Nomads definitively pride themselves in the Nomad-Gangs they come from. They also have a strict code of ethics and honor that helped them stay alive while traveling The Wastes. It's vast planes create great sharp-shooters and hidden-coves create legendary quick-draws.

  • Dekkers | Hackers

Dekkers get their name from 'decking' or the practice of using a deck-board to hack into a person's or building's systems. Many Dekkers dedicate themselves to having a complete understanding of the Net, while others are just 'script-kiddies' that know how to use illegal software to breakthrough Intrusion Countermeasures Electronics (ICE) and directly into the hardware of a victim. This also makes Dekkers fantastic for Wet-Ware Doctors. However, this also means Dekkers are some of the most competitive and least sociable of the Runners. A not uncommon phrase to hear is that they do, "Hit-jobs from Home." However, finding a qualified Dekker that won't be hunted down by a DarkNet stalker is few and far between.

  • Street-Samurai | Cyber-Ninjas

Street-Samurai come from many different walks of life, but share a strict adherence to Bushido Code. This naturally makes Street-Samurai & Nomads great allies due to their adherence to honor in slightly different ways. They loyally serve a Shogan or a cause much greater than themselves and make fantastic body-guards. However, In such a cutthroat society there are many more Ronin than there are Samurai. To prevent that, Street-Samurai are unique in the dependency of extreme agility and use of curved blades. These blades are highly coveted, but also perfect for a Street-Samurai's use.

  • Inputs

There are people who Output cash for entertainment and then there are Inputs. While all Runners have direct ways to complete the job, many Inputs dedicate themselves to doing it in the most entertaining way possible. The job of the Input in the first-place is to entertain and their undying charisma does that job for them. Prostitutes, Dancers, Live-streamers, Actors, and almost everyone who makes money through any form of entertainment is an Input. However, the glamour comes at a cost. Inputs are usually consumed by the media as well as eaten alive by the industry. With little loyalty and so-much to lose they tend to live extremely short lives.
