Description
The United States of America (US), also known as the United States, was a democratic republic of 50 provinces, called states, a federal district, 5 distinct territories and various possessions. The executive leader of the nation was given the title of President. At 3.8 million square miles (9.8 million km2), it was the world's third- or fourth-largest country by total area. Said nation was an ethnically and ideologically diverse nation, forming the basis of how certain postmodern nations would run for the next one hundred years or so. The United States of America was the worlds leading force in almost every way. This included but was not limited to scientific development, research, politics and culture. Particularly in the defence sector as a third of its annual taxes went to its own self-defence.
Collapse of the Republic
The first sign of the collapse of the United States, was Formation Day in 2055, when the Pacific Northwest of the United States formally seceded, alongside Idaho, portions of Montana, and sections of North California, buying up large swathes of land on the west coast of Canada, who were impoverished by the ongoing Quebec Offensive. This territory was declared as the Pacific States of Cascadia.
The rest of the United States would remain whole, until the Federal announcement to dissolve was spoken by President Harrison Mason. As the country's power waned and withered, its formerly grand size became too large for its own good. The Federal government ordered an emergency meeting of the states to draw up borders, and in the end, 12 countries were formed based on cultural ties and economic self-sufficiency. Alaska, California, Deseret, District of Columbia, Dixie, Florida, Illinois, Montana, New England, Ohio, Superior, and Texas.
One year later, after the Canadian Division, the borders of the continent would shift once again. Alaska merged with Yukon, the Northwest Territories, and portions of Nunavut. California was absorbed into Cascadia, alongside South Deseret. Superior merged with large sections of Ontario, and Manitoba. Montana was absorbed by Alberta.
