Summary
Also known as a 'Synthetic', or 'Synthetic Human Being', or referred to by pop-culture terminologies such as a 'Skinner', or 'Replicant', Synthetics comprise a very large part of the population of most SprawlNET-enabled cities.
Synthetics function on HeartCells, an extremely efficient, long-lasting, albeit expensive battery that can manage to power a Synthetic for 5 years, at a time.
Technical Lore
Synthetics were a massive breakthrough, in the way that we understand the way our bodies, minds work, as well as the spiritual concept, of a soul. While synthetics were introduced sometime around 2045, commercially, they were not truly perfected, to the degree of being Human-Passing, until 2062, one year after the release of SoulOS.
Synthetics can have three specific "brains."
- CyberBrain - This had to come from a human being, somehow, or was developed over time in use with a biological human being, therefore making this method the most human-adjacent way for a Synthetic to live.
- Millen Cube - Synthetics are able to mount the entire Millen Cube within their head - using it in a very traditional format, but also running the risk of Total Annihilation if death occurs via head trauma.
- SoulProc - A normal CPU that is made specifically for Synthetics. Usually, the most common method. The SoulProc simply takes either a SoulOS or SoulOS LITE installation, or can have a Millen Image deployed to it, or is capable of temporary, real-time Millen Image Streaming.
Legalities
In recent history, the process by which Synthetics begin to retain their own set of civil rights, has been long, and arduous - some would generally call it a struggle. In Sprawl-Enabled Cities, the general majority opinion of Synthetics is that they deserve rights, however, are to be kept on a short-leash, due to the general uneasiness, of their existence. Over time, many people have publicly come out in support for Synthetics to retain full human rights - however, partly due to their existence, in certain regions, society has re-examined how it is they look at other human beings, and their own humanity. In some places, this has led to an "Empathy Revival," whereas in other places, this has led to a general "black-pilling" of whether being "truly" alive even matters, anymore.
Synthetics enjoy rights that are very similar to human rights, at the broader level. However, almost always, Synthetics are charged and convicted at both rates higher than normal human beings, charged much heavier than biological humans, and server lengthier jail times, than biological humans.
Registration
All AI's must be registered with the Artificial Intelligence Registry. (AIR).
Synthetics can either be registered to a biological human, another synthetic, or themselves. However, being registered to anything that isn't a biological human being (as their property), will result in heftier fines, longer sentences, harsher sentences, when the law becomes involved.
Things that are normally deemed criminal for a Synthetic, when done as a Synthetic registered to a biological human, is typically considered negligence or reckless operation.
Synthetics that are self-registered, and also registered to another synth, unless that synth is somehow back-registered to a biological human being, the extended punishments apply.
Synthetics can inherit the benefits of registering directly to a biological human by being registered to a synthetic, which is registered to a human. This is called 'Proxying,' and is normally looked down upon by lawmakers.
