Summary

The Millen Cube is a device that enables a user to use two pieces of expensive, specialized ChipWare to be able to create a snap-shot of a person's entire consciousness for later re-deployment. These could be used in the event of Body Death, Brain Death, or Total Annihilation.

Appearance, and physical properties

The Millen Cube itself is seven inches by seven inches and light enough to be lifted with one hand. The surface of it has a protective pure gloss-black coating and can easily be mistaken as being made of obsidian. The only other features are two keyed sockets for a constant flow of data, electricity, coolant; and also a laser-etched identifier of whose consciousness is implanted. The Cube itself is usually housed in a temporary protective transport cargo case that can be carried or in a permanently cooled vault.

If removed from its protective case and unplugged, The Millen Cube will quickly begin to overheat and lose data integrity until the Millen Cube becomes functionally useless. The Millen Cube is incredibly sensitive to moisture and heat while also fluctuating in the needed amount of both. This functionally means that the Millen Cube needs to be translated into a facility as quickly as possible and requires a dedicated storage system.

Functionality

First, the SoulLink is a ChipWare piece able to record all retrievable memories from the brain to create a perfect copy of the soul of the person during the snapshot. The major function is to be a backup for one's mind in the event of Neural Trauma, or worse, Neural Degeneration Syndrome. Given the limited storage and current limitation, the functional motor skills of the person are not stored and all muscle memory is not stored. This even includes essential things like remembering how to breathe, hormonal tolerances, and heart muscle memory. When someone is restored, they are given an implant that simulates these but they are all function the same.

Second, the MoodMatrix is a ChipWare piece made to record and pattern one's psychological state. This would be their demeanor, feelings towards things, and general aptitudes. It only works as a guideline backup, so there is a very good chance that a person will behave strangely or create a new general personality for a period of time.

A Millen Cube can take both of these chips and essentially become a working storage device for a mind. This comes with the issue of it only being a dedicated storage device for a personality that even in sleep still needs stimulation. To get around this, the Millen Cube replays a curated recording of events which are then forgotten by the personality and replayed. Perceptually, the personality only experiences the recorded events once and this saves tremendously on the power needed to maintain the memories. This means that functionally, A Millen Cube has no actual processing power because it doesn't react to any outside stimuli. This also means that the personality needs to be transported into a CyberBrain or another similar system before being revived.

Restoration

The Millen Cube is typically used for a few things. That can be re-deploying the Millen Image onto a cyberbrain, or the CPU of a SoulOS enabled Synthetic Human body.

Legalities

Currently, it is illegal to duplicate or "dub" any Millen Cubes or the software required to create a stored version of a person.

Because of how safeguarded Millen Cubes are, not many national laws have been created on their treatment. It is fair to say that the multi-trillion-dollar corporations that are even able to manufacture them won't take kindly to any intrusions on them. This also included anti-intrusion methods if there are any attempts to reverse engineer the technology.
